Winter Skincare: How to Make Your Skin Glow

Winter Skincare Tips and Tricks - Winter Skincare: How to Make Your Skin Glow by popular Washington DC style blogger Alicia Tenise
Ah, winter. There are some pros: snow has been great this year — now that I don’t own a car. I love cozying up on the couch with a good cup of tea or hot chocolate, and sweaters and coats are always some of my favorite things to wear.

The cons? Well, some of us get SAD, we get hit with a polar vortex or two, and oh yeah — our skin tends to get all dried out, and it looks incredibly dull. My summer skin routine is a lot more simple — I’m only focusing on beating the humidity and stocking up on mattifying products. However, in the winter? My skin has felt like sandpaper in the past, so I switch up my winter skincare routine in the colder months to give my skin much needed moisture.

My daily winter skincare routine is…quite long. Not going to lie. However, I’m going to quickly focus on some of my favorite products in the routine that will address any skin concerns you might have, yet keep you moisturized.

WINTER SKINCARE ROUTINE

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
Ok, so really: I can use this product all year long and not run into any issues. It works great in the dead of summer, and in the driest of winters. I still get breakouts and have to work on minimizing my pores quite often, and this gently exfoliates my skin without drying it out. I’ve used a lot of “daily exfoliating” products in the past, and I’ve had issues with them making my skin flaky, but the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is gentle, yet packs a major punch.

I use this product just in the morning. I’m most likely going to buy it in the smaller size so that I can start bringing it with me while traveling. I only have a large bottle of it now, and it’s not ideal to stick in a suitcase, and I notice a difference in my skin when I travel for several days and don’t use a different — it’s a must-have from me!

Clarins Double Serum
I’ve been using this product for a few months, and it’s another gem that’s great to use year-round. The best part about the Clarins Double Serum is that it eliminates dullness. It’s really easy to lose my natural glow during the winter, but this product leaves me looking radiant. This product is worth the splurge — I’ve used it daily for the last four months, and I’m not even halfway through it.

I have combination skin, and it’s great for both my dry cheeks and oily t-zone. After using this product for a few days, I noticed my skin was firmer and more radiant. It’s also enriched with anti-aging turmeric to effectively target lines and wrinkles. I personally just use this product in the mornings. However, you can use it twice a day if you’d prefer.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essence
Have you ever used a toner and wondered…how exactly is this product benefitting me? Sure, it will balance your skin out, but for me, it always seemed like an odd step and I rarely visibly saw results from the products that I tried.

After I use my cleanser and my Daily Microfoliant, I apply Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essence and wow — after one week of using this product, I had multiple people messaging me and coming up to me saying that I was looking radiant. A few drops of this product will go a long way, and this helped me even out my skin tone and combat some of the dark spots I have on my skin due to acne scarring.

Derma E Hydrating Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid
Since I have combination skin, my cheeks are super dry, yet my t-zone is pretty oily. I’ve tried a ton of moisturizers over the years that just didn’t give my cheeks the moisture they need. The Derma E Hydrating Night Cream is perfect to use in the dead of winter, and one of the only products I’ve tried that gives me the moisture that my cheeks desperately need. Last week, it was 9 degree days with a -5 wind chill, and my cheeks magically still felt hydrated in extreme conditions.

I use this cream at night alongside my normal moisturizer during the day. Since my t-zone still gets super oily, I try not to use any moisturizer that’s too thick during the day, but this product is fantastic to use at night. I usually only use this in the winter/ dry climates as well — it’s a little too potent for me to use in the dead of summer!

  1. Wow, I am not familiar with any of these, but they all sound great and I really love how you explained each one. I live in the desert and I wish dry skin was only in our cooler months but it is literally year round. I might have to look into Dermalogica.

Does the Clarins serum contain Vitamin C? I’ve been trying out the Vitamin C serum from Dr. Gross but it makes my skin really red/irritated, so maybe I’ll have to switch to the Clarins one instead!
