Shop the Winter Home Decor Post:
Did anyone else just take down their tree? Whoops. Guilty. What can I say, I love my holiday home decor!
If you’re anything like me, it’s a little sad when you have to put away the holiday decor. While I love how clean and uncluttered my place looks without a tree and lights, it also seems a little bare and stark. Not to mention, I suffer from SAD, and winter without the holidays is always rough for me!
One day I’d love to fully commit to the Hygge lifestyle, but in the meantime, here are some things I do to make my apartment feel cozier after the holidays are over, including some of my winter home decor ideas.
Winter Home Decor Ideas: Load Up on All The Cozy Blankets
Ok: I am always cold. Forever cold. However, my boyfriend hangs around my apartment a lot, and he’s never cold, so I can’t crank up the heat like I would want to when he’s around (seriously, the man grew up in New England and can handle a Northeast winter a lot better than I can!)
I have a basket of blankets on standby for whenever I need to curl up on the couch and I’m not able to turn my heat up to 80. This is also an excellent method if you have roommates too because no one wants to be that annoying roomie who jacks up the gas bill every winter! I love playing around with different textures and patterns for blankets. This faux fur throw I picked up at Z Gallerie looks incredibly stylish on my couch, yet keeps me incredibly warm!
Winter Home Decor Ideas: Stay Cozy with Candles and Faux Fireplaces
There’s something about curling up on the couch with a good book, a cozy blanket and a candle that really can’t be beaten in the winter. Since I spend a lot more times indoors in the winter (#lazy), I love burning scented candles on a regular basis to create warmth and a relaxing atmosphere. I don’t have a fireplace in my current apartment, however, sometimes I’ll play a fireplace on loop on Netflix to get the feel of it (note to self: try to find a place with a fireplace when you move!)

Winter Home Decor Ideas: Keep A Few Holiday Pieces on Display
While I took my tree and other major pieces down, I kept some holiday decor pieces around my place. I rotate my decor seasonally on my bookcase, and this snow globe and mini tree were the perfect little accents that didn’t scream holiday. I plan on keeping these up until February or March; then I’ll swap the snow globe out with a succulent and replace the tree with a cute spring handbag that I frequently wear.
Winter Home Decor Ideas: Stock Up On “The Two T’s”: Tea and Tissues
Don’t you love winter? It takes a toll on our immune system! The weather has been pretty crazy here (and quite frankly, all across the country as of late) — we’ve had everything from sub-zero wind chills and random 50-60 degree days in the past week, and it’s wreaking havoc on my body!
During the winter, I like to stock up on the “Two T’s:” tissues and tea. We pretty much all get it: if we’re outdoors for long enough, our nose will start running (gross, I know!) I like to keep a plethora of tissues out on display so that both myself and any visitors I might have can quickly grab a tissue when we need it. And not to mention, I’ve already had the flu this year, so having a box in every room helped me when I was at my most ill this season!
I’m a big fan of the new Scotties Winter Design collection because it blends in with my winter home decor with ease (seriously — how adorable are these boxes?) I can keep them on my coffee table, and it won’t mess up my overall winter vibe in my apartment. Not only do these tissues have the cutest box design, but they’re also 3-ply with aloe lotion, so it won’t irritate your nose or cause your skin to dry out!
You can order Scotties tissues on Amazon, or sign up for their newsletter to find a retailer near you that carries them!

Yesss! Aren’t they the best?
Your decorating ideas are always beautiful and stylish! I agree that blankets and candles are fabulous for creating a warm, cozy look and feel during the cold winter months.
Thank you Denay! I live off of blankets and candles this time of year.
I always have comfy throws and blankets within arms reach. When the weather is this cold, I try my best make our home a little livelier, a little brighter with new throw pillow covers in bright, bold colors.
Such a great idea!
I think I have 6 boxes of tissues scattered throughout the house currently. These decorating ideas are so adorable. I love that fuzzy blanket that’s on the couch too!
Thank you Chelsea! Yes, tissue boxes can totally be a great decor piece!
Loving your space girl! So cozy!

Cozy blankets are a must this time of year. I feel like I hoard them almost. My nephew got me an adorable one with penguins on it fro Christmas. Your home is beautiful.
