The Best Dry Lip Remedies - How to Combat Winter Dry Lips by popular Washington beauty blogger Alicia Tenise

Shop the Winter Dry Lips Post:

Can I be honest? Winter is my least favorite season for a lot of reasons. Between SAD, sub-zero temps and dry, dull skin, I mostly just want to slip away into hibernation from December-March. However, life is all about turning lemons into lemonade, right? I always try to make the most out of winter, despite how brutal it can be.

One thing that I think most of us suffer from this season? Extremely winter dry lips. Chapped lips can be super distracting during the day, and it’s always something that has made me self-conscious. It’s honestly taken me years to get my lips properly hydrated during the winter, and now that I’ve got my routine down pat, I’m never looking back! Introducing, the three lip products I have in heavy rotation at the moment for my winter dry lips.

3 PRODUCTS TO COMBAT WINTER DRY LIPS

What I Use Daily: Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Lip Balm

I first tried the Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Lip Balm a year ago while I was at an event trying out the spa at MGM National Harbor. This spa uses all Clarins products, and I fell in love with pretty much every product I tried that evening.

I opted to try a mini lip exfoliating treatment, and after the exfoliant was taken off, my esthetician applied this lip balm. I immediately knew I needed this product in my life because my lips have never felt more hydrated in my life. I put this lip balm on in the morning, and most of the time I don’t need to reapply it until 8 hours later. It’s that good. I know $24 for a lip balm is steep, but it’s honestly the best $24 I’ve ever spent.

What I Use Every 3 Days: Sugar Lip Polish
Raise your hand if you know you need to exfoliate your lips to get rid of dead skin. Yeah, a year ago? I wouldn’t have been able to raise my hand.

I love lipsticks (especially matte ones, which do a fantastic job at drying my lips out!), so a conditioning exfoliant is essential to give my lips some much-needed moisture. I picked up this Lip Polish by Sugar a few months ago, and it has been a game changer. I typically apply this 2-3 times a week, depending on how dry my lips feel, at night before going to sleep. It makes my lips feel smooth and hydrated, and when I wake up the next morning, my lips look better than ever.

What I Use Before Bed: Vaseline Lip Therapy Cocoa Butter

My verdict on Vaseline Lip Therapy: it’s a great drugstore product, and in spring, summer, and fall I can apply this on its own and my lips stay pretty hydrated throughout the day. However, if I’m in a super dry climate like Colorado, or if it’s winter? This isn’t enough to keep me hydrated on its own.

I like using this product right before bed after I’ve washed my face or right after I use the Sugar Lip Polish. If I’m working from home one day and I know I’m not going outside that day, I’ll also use this product if I’m just hanging around the house. All in all, it’s an inexpensive find that’s great to have on hand throughout the year.

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve been having the worst time this year, spending my winter in southern Spain where the cold air is incredibly dry and takes a toll on my lips. Chapstick, aquaphor, nothing helps, but I haven’t tried these yet. That’s about to change!
