USA
Most of my wine travel has been in the United States, and this guide covers seven states: California's Lodi, Paso Robles, Sonoma and Napa, Oregon's Willamette Valley, Walla Walla in Washington, Virginia, Texas Hill Country, Arizona's Verde Valley and New York's Finger Lakes. Napa needs a reservation at every winery, while regions like Lodi and Charlottesville welcome walk-ins, and a tasting can cost anything from a $7 flight in Arizona to $60 or more in Napa.

California California wine is more than just Napa. Great wines, vineyards, and tasting rooms can be found all over the largest wine producing state in the country. -
Oregon Oregon is Pinot Noir and sparkling wine country, centred on the Willamette Valley. -
Arizona Arizona surprised me: the Verde Valley is the cheapest and most unexpected place to taste in the country. -
Virginia Virginia is where I learned to appreciate wine. -
Texas Texas wine is bigger than most people expect, and the Hill Country is where I keep coming back. -
Washington Washington's most walkable wine town, Walla Walla, is the region I have written about most. -
New York Upstate New York's Finger Lakes are Riesling country.
