Velas Vallarta: Getting There & Resort Transfers

To get to Velas Vallarta, you must fly into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). From Los Angeles, it was a quick flight under 3 hours, and there were many direct, nonstop flight options available. To expedite your customs experience, I highly recommend filling out the Mexico Tourist Card in advance to save yourself some time when you land.

I’d highly recommend booking a transfer in advance through the resort for a stress-free experience. This service would be an additional charge. However, having exact instructions on navigating the PVR airport to get to your ride and avoiding timeshare salespeople will save you a lot of time.

Velas Vallarta is a quick 5-10 minute drive from the airport, located in Marina Vallarta. The resort is also 20 minutes from Downtown Puerto Vallarta, and you can travel there by taxi. If you need transportation during your trip, talk to the resort’s concierge — they will happily call any taxis or arrange a shuttle for you and your party.

Velas Vallarta: A Family-Friendly Experience

Are you traveling with young ones? Velas Vallarta is a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort that is an excellent option for even the smallest of travelers. This resort has a children’s swimming pool and a Kid’s Club that offers plenty of activities and programming throughout the week.

If you want an adult-only experience, I’d recommend their sister resort, Casa Velas.

One Bedroom Deluxe Suite at Velas Vallarta

Velas Vallarta: Suite Options

The great thing about Velas Vallarta is that you have so many different types of suites to choose from! Whether you’re traveling as a couple or if you want to bring multiple family members on your vacation, the resort offers many lodging options.

I stayed in their One Bedroom Deluxe Suite, which could sleep up to three adults or two adults and two minors. I found it incredibly spacious and luxurious; I had more than enough room to relax, enjoy room service, and get ready for the day.

If you need more space, the property has two—and three-bedroom suites and higher-end luxury suites available for those who want to indulge. All suites include a full kitchen and a stocked minibar, so if you want to plan an extended stay, you can cook some meals on your own.

The suites at Velas Vallarta have a more traditional interior design than a super modern style, and I found it homey and comfortable.

Ribeye Steak from La Ribera Restaurant at Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Dinner on the Beach at Velas Vallarta Resort

Velas Vallarta: Dining Options

Velas Vallarta is home to two restaurants, two bars, and a couple of snack stations. Despite there being only two restaurants on-site, I never had an issue walking into a restaurant to grab a meal.

La Ribera is Velas Vallarta’s classic steakhouse. Located right on the beach, it offers a breakfast buffet and a la carte options, seafood, fine cuts of steak, and authentic Mexican dishes. I absolutely loved the dinner I had at La Ribera and thought their steak cuts were top-tier.

Their other restaurant on site, Andrea, offers global cuisines and a rotating dinner menu with a different theme each night. I didn’t get a chance to have dinner at Andrea, but it came highly recommended by those who frequented the resort.

We also had dinner right on the beach, as pictured above. The resort can curate this for your party for an extra charge. I enjoyed our private dining on the beach experience; we had a wonderful surf and turf dinner with custom cocktails and the most incredible service.

Velas Vallarta: Amenities, Activities & Entertainment

Velas Vallarta has several amenities, including:

  • Yoga classes on the beach
  • 24/7 gourmet dining, in-Suite
  • Gym
  • Spa
  • Two Swimming Pools + a Children’s Pool
  • Nightly shows and entertainment
  • Three tennis courts
  • Basketball courts
  • A Mexican Fiesta on Sunday evenings

If you’re into nightlife, the resort winds down by 10 p.m., but if you want to keep the celebrations going, you can take a taxi to Downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Spa: One amenity I wanted to highlight was the spa — and I think it is an absolute must if you’re visiting Velas Vallarta. I opted for a massage here, and it was divine. While the spa was a bit on the smaller side (no therapy rooms or exclusive pools to access), I still think going in for a treatment or two is 100% worth every penny.

Velas Vallarta: What to Pack

Looking for a full packing list for Puerto Vallarta? I’ve got you covered in this post.

Velas Vallarta was a more casual resort, but make sure you have the proper attire for their restaurants. You can view their current dress guidelines here, but as of 3/26/24, these are their restaurant dress codes:

Andrea:
Casual during the day (shirts must be worn, and bathing suits are prohibited).
Elegant-casual in the evening (collared shirt, pants, and closed-toe shoes for men; dresses, skirts, or pants for women; beach sandals, shorts, and tank tops are prohibited).

La Ribera: Casual (shorts and a t-shirt or shirt for men, bathing suit with wrap or cover-up for women). Wet bathing suits are not allowed.

Velas Vallarta: The Customer Service

The one thing that truly made our experience so special at Velas Vallarta was the incredible customer service. The staff here will go above and beyond to make your stay memorable, and I’ll never forget the amazing hospitality the resort offers.

A personal story: I had a pretty frantic checkout day. I missed alarms, and I thought I placed my passport in the safe at the beginning of the trip, but it was nowhere to be found. I searched high and low for it but couldn’t find it. After an hour of searching, I decided to check out at the front desk, head to the airport, and hope for the best.

Since the resort scanned my passport at check-in, I asked someone at the front desk if they had a copy of my passport that they could print out so I could bring it to the airport. Without even having to ask, their team overheard my dilemma, sent housekeeping to the unit I checked out of, and found my passport in the room before I left for the airport. True lifesavers! I’ll never forget their staff’s kindness, and it’s one of the many reasons I want to return for another stay.
