Guys: these past three weeks have been a whirlwind. I’ve been traveling up a storm and I just completed a major event for work, the biggest event our company hosts every year. Needless to say, I’m pretty exhausted!
As you know, a few weeks ago I was in Punta Cana, which is located in the Dominican Republic. I went to the beaches, saw some live shows, went snorkeling and thoroughly enjoyed my all-inclusive resort. One of the tours I decided to go on while in the DR was a “Live Like a Dominican” tour. I stepped away from the luxurious beaches, and toured the Dominican countryside.
Wow. I was in shock. I’ve only been outside of the United States once (I went to China), and it’s always a huge culture shock to see how other folks live outside of the U.S. Children in the Dominican only go to school for half a day, electricity isn’t available for a full 24 hours to Dominican residents in the countryside, and well, their water? Nope, it’s not safe to drink at all.
We take a lot of things for granted in the U.S., and access to clean water is one of them. I’ve personally been using a Brita pitcher and ditched water bottles over a decade ago. For starters, we’re all really fortunate to have tap water that is already pretty safe. With the quick use of a Brita pitcher, we can take pretty decent tap water and make it taste even more delicious and also filter out the taste and odor of chlorine and other contaminants. By ditching water bottles, not only am I saving money, but I’m also reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans and landfills. Did you know that 1 Brita pitcher = 300 plastic bottles saved?
I’ve had a Brita pitcher with me since my freshman year of college, but I decided to head to my local Safeway to snag a new pitcher. I love their new Soho pitcher because it’s slim and is ideal for those of us living with roommates. It takes up less space in my fridge which is pretty crucial, since my roommate and I both buy a lot of food each week.
Want a Brita pitcher of your own? Make sure to follow me on Twitter, I’m giving away a pitcher to a lucky reader! No Purchase Necessary. Ends June 15, 2016 at 11:59 PM EST. Subject to complete Official Rules.
