Shop the Summer Skincare Post:
Ah, sweet summer: it’s right around the corner! While we unofficially kicked off the season on Memorial Day, I’m not sure that the Northeast got the memo: the temps here seems to be going up and down with no rhyme or reason!
Before I went to Florida a couple of weeks ago, I knew it was time to fully bust out my summer skincare staples. I’ve gotten the opportunity to try a few new items over the last week, and I also revisited some of my old favorites. Here are my top picks for summer skincare items!
Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 50
The folks at Supergoop! sent over this product last year, and it quickly became one of my favorites. While I do use a setting powder, sometimes when I’m out and about, I need to reset my makeup. Their Defense Refresh Setting Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is fantastic because it helps keep my makeup in place, it feels refreshing when you apply it, and it also has SPF 50. Win-win! They have new packaging this year, but I might try to find something with a lower SPF when I need to refill this product.
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15
In the colder months, I love my Estee Lauder Double Wear; however, for the summer, I love to wear a foundation with a bit of SPF in it. I recently tried out Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15, and I’m hooked. It’s lightweight, blends in perfectly, and provides me with much-needed sun protection. For reference, I wear Shade #10.
Kopari Coconut Body Glow
Don’t we all want that perfect summer glow? I tried out Kopari’s Coconut Body Glow, and it gave me a great little shimmer for the season. Just a full disclaimer, I do think this works better on lighter skin tones: if I’m not super “tan” (is that even the word for black girls? Hah!) it works, but once I start getting super dark after a few pool days, it doesn’t blend in as well.
Dermalogica’s Hydrablur Primer
I have combination skin, and my T-Zone gets super, super oily when it’s super humid. Last year I switched over to Dermalogica’s Hydrablur Primer, and I haven’t looked back since. Sometimes when I don’t feel like wearing makeup, I’ll just wear the primer out and nothing else. It does an excellent job at mattifying and helps reduce shine throughout the day.
MoroccanOil Face Lotion with SPF 30
I’ve recently become hooked on MoroccanOil hair products, so I was stoked to try some of their face/body products for the summer. I love their sun lotion because it’s super lightweight, and it’s an excellent base for makeup. It also works well for dark skin, which I’ve found to be a challenge with sunscreens in the past!
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
As I mentioned previously, it’s a little difficult for me to find sunscreen that works well for darker skin. Often, I find lotions that leave an ashy residue or products that end up making my skin look a little purple. Supergoop’s new Unseen Sunscreen blends in seamlessly, is lightweight and provides great coverage. I’ve never had a sunburn, so I can’t tell how much it protects the skin from burns. However, I do get dark spots if I don’t wear sunscreen, and this product has protected my skin in that department!
