Tucked away in the heart of downtown, its stunning neoclassical architecture transports you to a time of grandeur, complete with beautiful Romanesque columns, lush landscaped courtyards, and stunning chandeliers.

The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco Review

Perched atop Nob Hill, The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, perfectly marries classic elegance with modern luxury. The grand, white-columned building—dating back to 1909—exudes historic charm while feeling remarkably fresh and sophisticated. As soon as you step inside, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere of refined luxury—think marble floors, sparkling chandeliers, and a serene ambiance that instantly puts you at ease. The breathtaking views of the city’s rolling hills enhance that feeling of escape, providing a peaceful refuge from the bustling streets below.

What truly makes this hotel shine is its ability to blend old-world charm with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The service is impeccable without feeling overly formal—you’re treated like a VIP but in a warm, personal manner. The lush courtyard feels like a hidden oasis, while the bar and lounge provide cozy corners to enjoy expertly crafted cocktails. And for food lovers, you’re in for a delight with Michelin-recognized dining and incredible wine experiences that showcase the best of Northern California’s flavors. Whether you’re here for a rejuvenating getaway or a special celebration, The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco makes luxury feel effortless.

Rooms & Suites

Standard Rooms

I don’t know how it happens, but the standard Ritz-Carlton rooms are always incredibly comfortable, luxurious, and charming, no matter which property I’m staying at. If you’re a fan of the brand, you’ll particularly enjoy the standard rooms at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco. Despite being located in a historic building in the heart of a major city, I was genuinely impressed with the spaciousness of even the smallest unit.

In addition to the cozy atmosphere, the experience includes complimentary tea and coffee, shoeshine services, upgraded bath essentials, 100% combed cotton linens, featherbeds with down comforters, and plush duvets. I slept soundly without much noise from the street!

Club Level

If you’re staying at a Ritz-Carlton and they offer a Club Level experience, I highly recommend booking it. I have chosen this experience before at various properties, including the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, and it truly adds a special touch to our stay. At the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco, a Club Level room provides access to the Club Level lounge, which serves all-day snacks, premium, exclusive wines, and other beverages. The lounge offers a cozy space where you can work or socialize with friends and loved ones.

Suites

Looking for an ultra-luxurious stay? The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco offers a variety of suites to meet your needs. All suites come with access to the Club Lounge, a dedicated check-in and concierge service, and special in-room amenities. Staying in the Presidential Suite is pretty high on my bucket list!

Dining

The Lounge

The Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco is not your typical lobby bar. It offers a delightful menu of coastal California cuisine, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are in season and focused on sustainability. You can enjoy a true local dining experience right from the comfort of your hotel, pairing your meals with a classic cocktail from their extensive drink selection. We were genuinely impressed by the high quality of both the food and beverage offerings, along with the exceptional service at this restaurant, making it our favorite spot for meals and nightcaps.

Parallel 37

Parallel 37 is a small but mighty restaurant that exclusively serves breakfast, featuring American classics made with local ingredients and healthy options. The selection here is fantastic, and I loved that they can accommodate many dietary needs.

Fitness Center & Wellness Activities

The Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco features a small gym that provides everything necessary for a great workout. They also offer limited wellness programming; you can check their current events schedule for details. However, please note that there is no pool or spa on the property.

Overall, while the gym and wellness offerings are not as extensive as those at some larger Ritz-Carlton resorts I’ve visited, the concierge can guide you to excellent options available throughout the city.

Activities

I believe the only area where The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco falls short is in its activities and amenities. However, given the abundance of things to do in San Francisco, this is not necessarily a significant drawback.

For those interested in shopping, the hotel features the women’s designer boutique House of Azadeh and Parfumeur Krigler in its lobby. It’s worth noting that the JCB Lounge and Tasting Rooms, which were also located in the lobby, have closed as of 2024.

I appreciated that the hotel is within walking distance of Grace Cathedral and Chinatown, making it a luxurious and convenient base for exploring the city.

My Ritz-Carlton San Francisco Experience

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco. If you’ve stayed at a Ritz property before, you can expect the same outstanding service and impeccable attention to detail that will enhance your stay. I am consistently impressed by the excellence of their staff and the thoughtful touches they add to elevate every experience.

While there weren’t a lot of events, activities, or amenities available, I found it to be a wonderful place to call home as we explored the city.
