My journey to healthy hair has been long, and it’s not quite over yet. My grandmother took me to get my hair relaxed for the first time when I was only three years old. That’s right, three. From age 3 to 18, I would put harsh chemicals in my hair on a semi-weekly basis. By the time I left my house for college, my hair was fried. It was constantly breaking off and incredibly thin. I knew I needed a change.
I chose to put my hair in braids, and after a few months and seeing my natural hair grow, I made the big chop. Now, I have to be honest with you: I am completely natural, but I still wear braids and weaves because I’m not quite sure what to do with this super thick, kinky head of hair. One thing that is important, however, is protecting the natural hair that I’ve been growing out for years.
One thing that my hair needs on a regular basis is moisture, so I was thrilled to try Beautiful Textures‘ Deep Conditioner and Moisture Butter. This gave my hair exactly what I needed. Goodbye, super dry locks! I use the deep conditioner on my hair daily, and sometimes I use it as a leave-in conditioner when my hair needs a little extra attention. I also like to add this to my heat protectant whenever I straighten my hair just to condition my hair even more.
The Moisture Butter is a great product to revive your curls. Rub it in section by section from root to end to hydrate and redefine your natural texture.

This is such a cool post! My roommate during my sophomore year used these types of hair products, and I loved to talk to her about it because her hair routine was so different from mine- it was so interesting!!
I’m glad that you have found some great hair products that are working well for you! I think that your hairstyle is gorgeous! 🙂

This is great, my hair routine is really really hands off. I wash it, condition it sometimes, and use dry shampoo! I love your hairstyle, it’s super cute!

I actually have coarse, curly, kinky hair as well (might seem crazy since I am light blonde) and have been getting it relaxed since I was in middle school. I really like Shea Butter products for when I’m trying to let my hair “recover”!
Youtube is your best friend. I big chopped in February after a year of braids and weaves. I would say I have 4a/4b curls. I’ve tried fifty different wash and go techniques. Natural hair is such a trial an error process. What works for one person, won’t work for another. I’ve enjoyed the journey though. So nice to not worry about heat, humidity, getting my hair wet. I co-wash every three days and have fresh curls within fifteen minutes and haven’t bothered to put heat on my hair. I should probably do a month of protective styling (marley or senegelease twists), but I LOVE feeling my hair and I’m worried I’ll dish out a whole lot of money for braids and then want them out a week later lol
I’m glad you found a product that really moisturizes your hair! I just dyed my hair for the very first time last week and I’m coping with dry ends (which I never dealt with before). I’ve been using moroccan oil on my tips and it works, (sort of!) but I wish I had a better conditioner!

My hair is so so damaged, bleach has killed my hair! Your hair is gorgeous and looks so healthy!
Loving your neon dress! Is there a related outfit post? 🙂
I love this! I had a friend who recently did the same and her hair looks gorgeous!
I always love your beauty posts!
I have been trying to grow my hair out and have it grow faster so I have been taking Biotin Vitamins and using Organix biotin and collagen shampoo, it really seems to help! You should try that out!
I don’t fry my hair with heat because the desert sun likes to do that for me! I’ve found that leave-in conditioners are especially helpful!

My hair used to be SUPER fried too! But now I only use heat on it on the weekends and leave it natural during the week! I also do keratin every 6 months or so… which reminds me that it’s time to go back again!

I used to perm, relax, and straighten my hair for years throughout middle school and high school. Just last year I decided no more and went the natural route. I love it! I’m always up for trying moisturizers to find what works best. Thanks for the review. 🙂
Your hair is gorgeous, girl!! It look so healthy! Love reading your tips!

Keeping your hair healthy is so important! Good for you for taking steps to make your hair naturally beautiful.
I definitely get you on the natural hair front. I didn’t end up having to chop my hair, but eventually I just stopped relaxing it. For the last year or so my hair has been completely relaxer free (of course now it’s a hot mess express.) I just let my sister deal with all the craziness that is my natural hair, she is licensed, and doesn’t judge me for it lol.
Thank you for sharing this! I always use a deep conditioning treatment when I wash my hair. That keeps it healthy and smooth. Plus, I try not to wash my hair more than three times a week. Dry shampoo is my bff!
