How to Get Back to Your Normal Routine After Traveling

I’m sharing MiO in my life as part of a sponsored series for Socialstars™. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve chatted about this a few times before on the blog, but I’m having a pretty crazy, busy summer! Most of the time I really dislike using the word “busy” since it can be seen as a negative thing. Trust me, I’m very thankful for all of the summer adventures I’ve been on lately, and the ability to bounce between my three favorite cities in the Mid-Atlantic on a weekly basis: D.C., Philly and NYC.

Since I’m on the road (or on a plane!) quite often this summer, I’ve only been in my apartment for a few days at a time. As soon as I get home, I do these three things to help me decompress, focus, and get myself geared up for another day of work and/or travel.

  1. Unplug

The first thing I do when I get back into town? Since I blog and have to write on pretty much a daily basis, I try to read as much as possible to expand my vocabulary (really, how many times can I call an outfit “cute” on here?) Since I’ve been going through books left and right this season, my Amazon Kindle has been a lifesaver!

  2. Re-Hydrate

Does anyone else get sick a lot after they travel? I had my spleen removed when I was 8, so travel can really wear my system down. As soon as I get home, I try to drink a couple of glasses of water just to get my body back in balance.

I’ve always been the girl who gravitates towards juices rather than agua, so this is why MiO Original comes in handy. I love that I can jazz up any water that I’m drinking, either at home or on the go. MiO Original gives my water a surge of delicious flavors, and I find myself drinking my water super fast after using it — no more leftover water bottles for me!

  3. Organize

The last thing I do after I’ve relaxed and organized is get myself organized for the next few days. I write out my to-do lists, I’ll (briefly!) check my email and see if I need to add any new appointments to my calendar, and I’ll write out a grocery list to get me what I need for the next few days. All of these steps majorly help me assimilate back to normal once I return home!

I struggle with coming home mostly because I don’t want to be home, but great tips. It’s always nice to do a detox too. I tend to eat very badly while on a holiday.

  3. I’m ALL FOR flavored water…so much so, that I can barely take the taste of plain ol’ water. And I’m CONSTANTLY dehydrated unless I am able to really be intentional and make it something I love! MiO is *so good*.

What do I do after traveling or a vacation? You mean after crying why it had to end? LOL! I usually catch up on sleep first. Reset my body clock then organize, organize, organize.

  11. These are all great tips! It’s always so hard to get back into a routine after traveling, but writing out lists always help me. I tend to start making a list in the airport when I’m leaving. I start to get a little anxious about getting back into the swing of things and that helps calm me down. 🙂
