Milani x College Fashion Week

Over the weekend, I went to Her Campus’ College Fashion Week at the W Hotel. I was a member of the Her Campus chapter back when I was in college, and it’s exciting that through their blogger network, I still get to be a part of the organization. I saw College Fashion Week in Boston and New York City in the past, and I was super excited for them to bring it to D.C.!

The best part about College Fashion Week is that they use real girl models that have all shapes/sizes/body types and pick out pieces that you can actually afford; featuring items from stores such as Express, Forever 21, etc. As much as I love drooling over New York Fashion Week and as much as I love investing in a high-end piece from time to time, my entry-level budget doesn’t permit me to have a closet and makeup bag full of designer products.

One line I discovered at College Fashion Week was Milani Cosmetics. Not only did Milani have a booth at the event so that we could try out their extensive lipstick line, but they also did the makeup for all of the models. I had a chance to head backstage and check out the full line for myself.

Milani Cosmetics is inspired by the city of Milan and its vibrant culture (hence the name!) What I love most about the line is that it’s super affordable and accessible. You can pick up this line at your local drugstore, and it won’t break the bank! Drugstore beauty brands are pretty notorious for not catering to women of color, but Milani is an exception to this rule. I was so excited to learn that they sell foundations, in my shade, for under $10. Normally I have to use department store brands to snag a foundation in my shade!

Also, if you’re in the market for new lipstick this season, I was highly impressed with the line I tried at their booth. I highly recommend their ‘Matte Flirty’ shade, it seemed to be a hit and is a gorgeous deep plum color that’s perfect for fall!

  1. Ah! I’m so excited for College Fashion Week. This weekend they’re coming to Atlanta and I’m literally counting down the days! Do you have any advice for people who attending their first fashion show? Is wearing heels a bad idea?

    • Hey there! You’re going to have a blast at the event! If you’re comfortable in heels you should wear them, if you aren’t comfortable in them I would probably skip them. The DC show was a little more on the laid back side, so boots (either with heels or flat) might be a good option!

My advice is to just have fun! There will be a lot of sponsor tables at the event where you can get your brows done, try makeup and hair products, etc. Make sure to bring your camera!

So fun, loved following along on Snapchat! I was also part of Her Campus in college (a group of us actually started the chapter) and it was SO fun! I love the fact that you’re still part of the network after you graduate!
