Ok so, raise your hand if you haven’t been on a plane in the past year. Crazy to think about how much has changed in the past 12 months!

Even though I’m a travel blogger, I’m still playing it by ear and holding off on cross-country flights at the moment. However, as a wine lover, the one place that I’ve been wanting to travel to over the past year is Sonoma County, California. It’s one of my favorite wine-tasting destinations, and I love how elevated and chic the tasting rooms are in the area!

If I can’t fly to Sonoma right now, I figured: why not recreate a Sonoma tasting room in the comfort of my own home? Today, I’m teaming up with Lowe’s to show you how I transformed our basement into the wine cellar of our dreams!

If you’ve read my blog for a while, it’s no secret that I’m a really big fan of wine. So much so, that I went to “wine school” this past summer (AKA — I’ve taken WSET courses and currently have a Level 1 certification!)

I’ve been slowly but surely growing my wine collection over the years, and I also moved in with another wine enthusiast as well. Between the two of us, we have over 100+ bottles of wine in our home. The only problem? We never really had a good storage system in place for all the bottles we accumulated over the years!

As you can see, our wine area was a hot mess beforehand. We kept things in cases on a wire shelf, and honestly, that made it pretty difficult to find specific bottles of wine, or figure out which bottles were ready to open. Not to mention, ideally, you want to store wine on its side. I had a few wine racks at home, but not nearly enough to house our 100+ bottle collection!

We wanted to create a wine cellar in our home, but we weren’t able to do a full renovation or construction in the space. However, with the help of Lowe’s, I was able to transform this space in 48-hours!

To address some of the wine storage issues we were having in our space, we opted to get two of these Steel Metal Wine Racks that hold 96 bottles of wine each. This was a huge game-changer for us! I filled every other slot in the wine jails, and it’s so much easier to see exactly what wines we have and easily find what we’re looking for. This product is truly a gamechanger!

To elevate our wine tasting area, we added LED Light Strips to the back of our wine jails. This Is my favorite feature of the space: we synced the lights up to our Google Home, and we can ask Google to change the color of the light strips to set the mood, and make it feel more like the wine bars that we’ve been missing over the past year!

Another addition that we love is the 29-Bottle Wine Chiller. Since we have so much wine, it’s impossible to chill every single bottle we’d like to in our kitchen fridge. After all, we do have to fit food and other beverages in that space! I love the wine chiller because we can keep our favorite bottles of whites, rosés, and sparkling wines chilled at the perfect temperature at all times. Plus, it has dual temperature zones, so I can set the ideal temprature for each varietal!

The Wine Cabinet is also another favorite of mine. I love that it has 3 rows of glass hangers so we can store wine glasses right inside, and we don’t have to run back and forth to the upstairs kitchen to do a wine tasting. It also helps the glasses avoid accumulating dust. Plus, we were also able to include some of our favorite whiskey and bourbon bottles in the cabniet, just in case one of us wasn’t in the mood for wine!

As you can probably tell, I couldn’t be happier with our new wine cellar. I’m so glad we created a Sonoma-inspired Hometrip experience by transforming our basement into an upscale wine tasting and storage area, recreating elements of our favorite trips and (finally!) displaying our full wine collection. I’m so impressed at how easy it was to recreate our favorite travel destination at home with products from Lowe’s, giving us just what we need to satisfy our wanderlust.
