I know what you’re thinking: Leesh, what’s up with the title of your post? (Have I ever told you that all my good friends pretty much call me “Leesh”? That’s a thing. And since we’re obviously good friends on here…)

Growing up as a lanky girl was awkward, to say the least. I was taller than everyone in grade school. If you needed me, I was automatically heading to the back of my class photos. It got really awkward when I was 12 years old and already 5’7″ and, you know, fully developed. My doctors projected that I’d be 5’11”, but I actually just stopped growing when I was 12. It was odd, but I’m thankful, cause I think 5’7″ is a pretty decent height and I can still wear normal sizes most of the time without having to go in the “Tall” section.

Anyway. Can I tell you how many times I got in trouble in school for shorts? I can’t count how many times I was sent home or “warned” on one hand. As an adult, I’ve been somewhat weary of shorts. Everything looks a million times shorter on me because my legs go on for days.

As a long-legged girl, you have to realize that a lot of brands of shorts just aren’t going to work for you. And that’s ok! Once you find the brands that do work, it’s like magic. I’m personally a big fan of Madewell shorts and pick a new pair up every year. I also just tried the Levi’s 501 Shorts pictured here, and they’re leggy-girl approved.

Any other long-limbed girls out there? Tell me about your clothing struggles!

I never noticed how long your legs are before but WOW! those are some beautiful, long legs!! I feel you on the short short front…my biggest problem is the inseam. A 3″ inseam cuts into me…I don’t know how anyone can wear them. I need at least a 4″ inseam.

And forget those jerk administrators sending girls home because of shorts…I don’t think I knew of any boy who was sent home for their pants hanging off their butts.

UGH SAME SAME SAME. I’m all legs. I literally used to wear bermudas for years because I was so self conscious of my long legs. You look AMAZING in these!

Also can we talk about sexist dress codes? Over it.

5’10” over here!! I really struggle with denim shorts – I want it to fit loose on the thigh, but fitted on the hips/butt. I really hate tugging on my shorts – they constantly ride up (same issue with pencil skirts for work)!

My go-to is H&M – they have flowy shorts that don’t ride up, come in many colors and patterns, and are usually $30 or less. But I’m still on the hunt for perfect denim shorts! I’ll definitely try out Madewell.

I know exactly how you feel – I was actually sent to the principal’s office on my last day of senior year and told to put my gym clothes on! I’ve always had a problem with shorts, but tend to wear J.Crew, since they have a longer inseam. I’ve gotta try the Madewell ones!

I totally understand what you mean. I’m taller than most of my friends so when I try shorts they are usually super short and my butt is big so they are even shorter lol fun stuff.
