So, where exactly did 2015 go?

This year was a whirlwind, and as it draws to a close, I’m taking a bit of time to reflect on both the success and failure I’ve experienced since January. This year started off on a low note with being laid off from a job, but eventually I bounced back, took on some freelance projects, and found myself back in a full-time role after a few months. I saw a crazy amount of success with this blog and in my personal life. I was able to travel to California for the first time since I was 13, attended SBScon down in Charleston, finally crossed off several music festivals that had been on my bucket list for forever, and I was able to work with some of my favorite brands. This year, which started off pretty terrible, ended up being one of the best years of my life.

I’m not one to set strict New Years resolutions, but as a small business owner and career woman, there is one thing that I want to do more: read. I’m not going to lie, it’s something that I used to do super often, but between balancing a full-time job and a full-time blog and a social life, reading wasn’t something I made a priority in 2015. Aside from reading at the pool, during my commute on the metro or while traveling, I didn’t make that much of an effort to sit down in my apartment and cozy up with a good book.

I’ve been an old school type of reader and always preferred a physical copy of a book, and I was afraid to try a reader of any kind. The folks at Amazon offered to let me try a Kindle Paperwhite and guys, I’m hooked. It makes reading with a hectic schedule easy. I can purchase a book off of Amazon at any time and it instantly downloads to my Kindle Paperwhite. As much as I love shopping at bookstores, a lot of times I just can’t squeeze a trip in. It’s also great for those of us who are reading multiple books at a time; instead of lugging around several physical copies of a book, I can put as many books as I want on the Kindle! It’s super lightweight, and it even fits in the tiny little bag I have pictured above.

While I’m recovering from surgery, I’m going to try to start getting in the habit of reading at least 2 books a month on my Kindle. If you guys have any recommendations for me, let me know! I’m currently reading Mindy Kaling’s Why Not Me and I just finished Aliza Licht’s Leave Your Mark

Thank you Amazon and Kindle Paperwhite for partnering with me for today’s post.

  1. Love this! I treasureee my Kindle…it’s a few years old now, but it’s changed the way I read in the best of ways. It took a little getting used to (I was a big “hold the book in your hands” proponent) but with the metro and traveling, it’s been a blessing. Definitely need to explore the Paperwhite so I can read without a bedside lamp 🙂

And you are totally killin’ it! 2016 is going to bring even more great things! xox

  3. I love my Kindle! It allows me to take so many books with me on the go. It’s also awesome to be able to use the app on my phone and laptop when I don’t have my Kindle on hand. I just finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover and I loved them both. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I’m a book blogger, so whenever someone says their looking for a good book recommendation I can’t resist! If you liked Mindy Kaling’s book I would definitely recommend The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae. So funny!! I also love anything by Jenny Han or Morgan Matson for cute, romantic reads!

Good on you for doing more reading. I haven’t read a book in a while and I work in a library! I recommend Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. Take care!
