The best thing about having an apartment of my own is that I can finally have my friends over and entertain. My apartment building also happens to have a pool and a rooftop deck, so you can imagine how “popular” I’ve been all summer! (I kid, I kid!)
I’ve been feeling a little worn down and low in the energy department lately (what can I say? It’s hard to have a full-time job and a full-time blog!), so I wanted to host a healthier end of summer get together with my friends. My friends and I felt very refreshed and recharged after this small shindig, and we also were able to sneak in a little fitness time as well. I’m sure we’ll all binge on carbs in a few weeks as normal, but this was a great little party to switch up our normal routine.
Serve fruit instead of carbs. I always like to eat a bit lighter in the summer anyway, so why not swap out chips and dip for a bowl of fresh fruit or watermelon? You’ll save on calories and won’t have any guilt later on!
Be active. Who doesn’t love a pool party? Instead of laying out, challenge your guests to a few laps around the pool. It’s a fun way to work out (and it won’t really feel as tedious as a gym session!)
Instead of wine, try an IZZE Sparkling Water. I know, I know. The Olivia Pope in me loves wine, however, on a super hot summer day, that’s not the most practical (or healthy!) option. I’ve been a huge fan of IZZE Sparkling Beverages, and at this little get together I served both their Sparkling Pomegranate and their new Sparkling Waters. You have three, bold flavors to choose from with their new Sparkling Water line:Blackberry Pear, Mandarin Lime and Raspberry Watermelon. The best thing about IZZE Sparkling Water is that has only 10 calories per 12-oz serving and just a hint of organic pure cane sugar (1-2 grams). Refreshing, low calorie and low sugar? Sign me up!
Send your guests home with healthy treats. At my latest party, I included headphones, energy bars and headbands in the swag bag. It’s a great alternative to snacks and candy, and will encourage your friends and family to live a healthy lifestyle long after the party ends!
