Long time, no see my friends! ICYMI: I spent the past four weeks on the road traveling from Virginia to Los Angeles. We had a blast, and I’m ready to settle into my new life in Los Angeles. I took a bit of a blogging break to deal with the move and the traveling, but I’m back in action and am sharing how to eat healthy on the road!
I have a lot of road trip content that I’m excited to share with you all. In the meantime, we’re currently staying in a short-term rental while we look for a more long-term place in the area. We opted to do a short-term rental vs. a hotel to cook in our new spot. As tempting as it is to eat out every day in LA, now is the time to save some money and eat in.
How to Eat Healthy on the Road
We’ve been using our Walmart+ membership the entire time we’ve been on the road this spring (almost a month now!), and it has been a saving grace. When I was at our home in Virginia, I used our membership to make epic brunches at home and host the best barbecues. While we were on the road, we used it for snacks and for that essential first grocery store order you need to place when you’ve moved somewhere new.
Here are some of the ways we’ve been using our Walmart+ membership while traveling:
Walmart+ Benefit: Free delivery from your store
It’s a major drag to have to pause your vacation to go to the grocery store. Or really, pause any part of your day to have to deal with it!
My favorite benefit of Walmart+ is that they offer free delivery straight from my store ($35 minimum. Restrictions apply.). Not only can I get groceries delivered with my membership, but other items such as storage pieces, gifts, electronics…you name it! It’s super convenient and a major time saver to be able to get all of your household essentials delivered from your local Walmart store.
It was easy to find a Walmart in every single city I traveled to over the past month. If I was outside of the delivery zone, then I’d place an order for pickup (not a benefit of Walmart+, but still a great perk of shopping from Walmart!) I could pick my designated time for pick up, and the Walmart team would have my order ready in as soon as two hours.
Getting Fruits, Veggies, and Quick Breakfast Items
It isn’t cheap to travel across the country. Between gas and hotels, a trip like this will quickly add up.
I love using Walmart+ on this road trip because I could get snacks and quick grab-and-go breakfast items pretty much everywhere in the country. Some of my go-to road trip snacks and breakfasts included:
- KIND Bar Minis (they’re gluten-free!)
- Fruit on the Bottom Yogurt
- Boom Chicka Pop Popcorn (also gluten-free)
- Hummus
- Squeezable Almond Butter
- Flavored Trail Mix
- Cheese Snacks
Now that we’re settled into our short-term rental in LA for the next month, we did a bigger grocery order since we have access to a stove, oven, and microwave (hello — obviously had to order a big tub of Old Bay!) However, those snacks listed above satiated our hunger while driving, especially when we were out in the middle of nowhere for long stretches!
A few other Walmart+ benefits include mobile scan & go, member prices on fuel, and free shipping from Walmart.com (Excludes freight & Marketplace items). If you’re ready to try out Walmart+ for yourself, you can sign up for a free 15-day trial!
