This May will mark 4 years since my college graduation. Time flies fast, right? You spend 16 years in school and then boom. It’s done. You either you opt for a graduate degree and keep learning, or you’re an adult out in the workforce. I opted for the latter, since a graduate degree in Marketing really wouldn’t have done me any good. And hello: student loans. Sallie Mae is no joke!
Even though I’m relieved to be out of school, I really do miss learning new things on a regular basis. Sure, I might stumble down a Wikipedia hole a few times a week and educate myself on random facts, but I really loved the opportunity I had in college to better myself by learning from incredible professors.
Enter: The Great Courses Plus. Let’s face it: I am absolutely not an expert in everything. Especially as a small business owner, I have no one to learn from career-wise, so it’s up to me to continue my own education.
I love The Great Courses Plus because they have a wide variety of courses: anything from science and photography to history and cooking — you name it, they have a course on it, and you can properly get your learn on. There are more than 8,000 lecture videos to choose from, and if you sign up for a monthly subscription you have unlimited access to all they have to offer.
I recently took a course under the science track called ‘Effective Communication Skills‘ which I think is pretty necessary for everyone, including me, a super young business owner. It was so awesome to learn the science behind communication, and the course even taught me some nitty gritty subjects like how to deal with confrontation and how to communicate in the workplace. I would highly recommend this course to any #GIRLboss out there!
I’m definitely going to try out some cooking and photography classes next, and I’m so stoked to learn more throughout the year! The best part is that you can actually download the video courses to your computer, so you can view them offline (hello — a great activity for a long plane ride!)

Oooooh I like the idea of taking these classes on a flight!

This is great. I’m always looking for new ways to stretch the old brain muscle. Definitely going to give these a try!
