If you’ve been following along for a while now, you guys know that I’m a girl on the go. Between being a travel blogger, having a long-distance relationship, and bouncing back and forth between Philly and D.C. for various media events and blog meetings, I’m hardly at home.
Even though I’m a huge foodie, right now I’m on the road so much that it’s difficult for me to prep a lot of home-cooked meals for myself, and I instead look for easy dinner options. Quite often, I’m only home for 48-72 hours at a time before heading out for the next trip, and I’m not able to go on a huge grocery store run and fully stock my kitchen during those periods. However, I try not to spend a ton of money on takeout while I’m at home either. That’s why I’m always on the hunt for easy meal options for whenever I’m in town.
EASY DINNER OPTIONS WITH FRESH GROCER
One of my go-to grocery stores here in Philadelphia is Fresh Grocer. They’re designed with the urban shopper in mind: they’re a bit more intimate than the typical grocery stores you see out in the ‘burbs. However, they still have everything you need!
The Fresh Grocer at Monument Road is home to the Brown’s Chef Market, where you can order freshly prepared meals to go, shop their incredible beer garden or pick up a premade dish. My go-to dish at Brown’s Chef Market is the Fire Grilled Chicken: you can order it in a single serving for yourself, or pick up an entire chicken for date night and beyond.
For date night a few weeks ago, I ordered an entire Fire Grilled Chicken along with the Brown’s Chef Market Macaroni & Cheese and Collard Greens. I also picked up a bottle of Alamos Malbec to pair with the meal, which is a fantastic Argentinian wine that’s less than $15 (a great option for those folks who love bold flavors).
If chicken isn’t your thing, they’ve got a great selection of hoagies, sandwiches and fresh veggies that are ready to eat. All in all, I think that Fresh Grocer is the perfect spot for a young professional to either grab a quick lunch on the go, a single serving of dinner, or a dinner for two — and they’ve been a savior on date nights in.
