Do you know what I realized this weekend? I really need to have an “off” switch when it comes to blogging.

Blogging is an interesting job because I don’t have an office. I don’t have designated hours. And since I have a 9-5, I spend my lunch breaks, metro rides, nights and evenings working on all things blogging. No wonder why I periodically started getting burned out!

I went down to Austin this past weekend, and I spent my entire Friday furiously trying to answer blog emails. Not going to lie, I felt a little depressed after the election, and the day afterwards was probably my least productive day I’ve had in a long time. I was playing catch up, even though I was technically on a vacation.

There came a moment when I knew I just needed to shut down my laptop and not check my blog email for a day or so. I needed to relax. Chill. Actually not work 24/7, which is a very novel concept. This is why I’m starting to implement “blog office hours,” for my sanity. I’m going to take one whole day a week to power off and do my own thing. I also am giving myself a few hours a day when I completely decompress: no blog events, no day job, no blogging, a few hours just to myself. Whether I use that time to go to the gym, or watch TV, it’s just a few hours of “me” time!

Cheers to a little more balance, right?

It’s really important to find balance when we don’t have someone telling us what to do, like a boss or just someone in a higher position that us. That’s the thing about being self-employed… It can be so hard to step out of ourselves and be like “wait, I need to pause for a bit”. I’ve actually known many bloggers that do that one day off thing and it works great for them so I believe it’ll work great for you too. And I think your dress is really pretty!

I feel the same way. I spend almost all of my time either blogging or planning for my blog. It’s hard to put it down, but you definitely have to sometimes!

And I feel you about the election. It’s going to be a rough (hopefully just) 4 years.

  10. Stunning! Just too cute, i love your hair, the color is pretty similar to mine. 🙂 Killin’ it in that free people dress, the design going up and down is super slenderizing. That jacket though!! Yay for balance, it’s challenging to find some days!

  15. So smart to do blog office hours… it’s so hard, I feel like we’re just always on and hyper connected… it’s refreshing to take a break and disconnect every now and then.
