Foodie Files | District Doughnut

Foodie Files is back! I hope you enjoy this month’s installment as much as I do.

This is a shop I’ve been waiting to check out for months. I’ve been following District Doughnut on Twitter for a while now, and they’ve been delivering mouth-watering donuts to local businesses in and around D.C. Unfortunately I live and work in the ‘burbs, so I missed the delivery cut-off line. Lucky for all of us, they are opening up a shop in Barracks Row. I was finally able to try a couple of these donuts at one of their soft openings last month (Dulce De Leche and Brown Butter), and they did not disappoint. They tasted just as delicious as they looked.

I love seeing local businesses grow and flourish, and District Doughnut is no exception. They went from a home kitchen to opening their first storefront in a little over two years. They handcraft their donuts daily and strive to infuse their pastries with the city’s classic history and vibrant creative spirit. District Doughnut features an array of classic and internationally-inspired flavors. They’re rolling out some amazing specialty flavors this fall as well, including Sweet Potato Pie and Pumpkin Spiced. Um, yum!

District Doughnut’s grand opening is next weekend (Friday, September 12th at 8 AM), so all of you D.C. donut fiends can experience this deliciousness yourself. Also, if you’re a coffee addict like I am, District Doughnut will be serving Compass Coffee, a craft coffee roasting company launching its roastery in Shaw later this year.

(Side note: I tried taking photos with donuts, but I ate them too fast because they were delicious. Whoops.)
