It’s that time again: welcome to this month’s installment of Foodie Files! I moved to D.C. almost two years ago, and I’ve been eating my way through the city ever since. Here is where I show off one of my favorite spots in the city, as well as give you the scoop on what to wear to the restaurant as well!
I’m an equal opportunist when it comes to burgers. I love fast food burgers, gourmet burgers and every other type of burger in between. I finally tried the highly acclaimed Burger Tap and Shake a few weeks ago and guys, I definitely found my new favorite burger joint in the city.
What makes BTS stand out is their in-house sourcing. They share a kitchen with their next door neighbor, District Commons, so they’re able to make their ice cream fresh, serve house-made buns and naturally raised, locally grownbeef chuck and brisket. BTS is a local gem, and I was pleasantly surprised with how fresh everything tasted.
BTS is super casual; they don’t take reservations and it’s super easy to pop in with your friends and either grab a table, sit at their counter or take your burger to go. I would recommend dining in rather than takeout so you can enjoy one of their Shaketails (AKA a spiked milkshake) or their amazing, daily happy hour which features $5 drafts.
Since bacon and whiskey are my jam, I opted for the Big Daddy burger and the Stag Party Shaketail. My friend Lisa who tagged along with me on this trip is a pescatarian and chose the Upstream Run salmon burger. I highly recommend both, and make sure to get your Big Daddy burger cooked medium!
I’m definitely counting down the days until my next BTS trip. In the meantime, I may or may not continue to drool over these photos here and remember the awesome meal I had.
D.C. friends: what other burger joints are you loving lately?
That burger looks fantastic! As weird as it sounds, I used to not like burgers growing up, but now I love them. Have a great week!

BTS is my husband’s favorite! I really like Good Stuff Eatery. I think it’s so fun how DC has a lot of burger/shake places to try!

I haven’t tried BTS yet, but I always pass it! I’m still a Shake Shack girl at heart 🙂

Your outfit, even at a burger joint, is killing it.
