I went home a few weeks ago, and my mom told me that she’s noticed I’ve been living in fall midi dresses this season. I hadn’t put much thought behind it, but then I scrolled through my archives. And man. It’s like no other dress type exists in my mind this fall!
Don’t get me wrong: I still love a good mini dress, and I plan on busting some of those out for the holidays (P.S., I can’t wait to share some holiday content with you all!) However, I think my subconscious has gravitated toward fall midi dresses for a few reasons. The first being that it’s just a fantastic length. As much as I love a good maxi dress, they aren’t the most practical if you have the wrong shoes — don’t ask me how many times I’ve tripped while wearing a maxi! Also, if there’s inclement weather and your dress is dragging on the floor, it’s never a good look. A midi dress gives you the sophistication of a maxi, without all of the fuss.
Second? You can take the girl out of D.C., but you can never take the D.C. out of the girl. While I always worked in business casual offices, I would always err on the conservative side when it came to the length of my garments. Whenever I meet brands IRL for blog projects, sometimes I’m meeting up with a PR company with a super casual dress code, or a major organization that requires their employees to wear suits. Midi dresses and skirts are fantastic because they can easily be dressed up or down. I’ve layered a denim jacket over this dress for those super casual events and layered a lace turtleneck underneath this dress for some of the more formal events I need to attend.
Third — I’m a girl on the go. It’s easy for me to throw on a dress and go, rather than deal with having to match a pair of jeans and a top. A slightly lazy reason, but hey: I’m just being honest!
