If you follow me on Instagram Stories or Snapchat, you’re probably very aware that my car ended up getting totaled a mere 10 days before moving to Philly.

I wasn’t even sure if I was going to bring my car to Philadelphia. I went back and forth with the idea of either leaving it at my mom’s house in Northern Virginia, or taking the plunge and bringing it with me (and hoping for good parking!) Welp. That choice was swiftly taken away from me!

After living here for 4 weeks now, I can confidently say that I absolutely do not need to own a car myself, and it’s a small blessing in disguise that my car ended up getting totaled! Since I’ve lived here, I’ve only used a car approximately three times: and it’s all been through good old Enterprise Carshare.
It’s pretty simple, actually: you can book a car at anytime through their app, and if you’re in a major city, there’s usually one within walking distance. In fact there are a lot of options that are just a 10-minute walk from my new apartment! And, you can rent for a few hours or a few days. You also get a pretty neat little membership card that will start/end your rental, and it’s really easy to use!

I’ve rented this cute little Toyota Corolla a few times now, and I’m in love (honestly it’s my go to car in my neighborhood!) I make sure to bring along my USB cord so I can jam out while using it, it drives incredibly well, and it’s the perfect size to bop around the city and parallel park anywhere around town. There’s also a van in my neighborhood I’ve rented in the past for some of my IKEA trips, so you’ve got plenty of options to choose from!

I absolutely love not having to deal with a car of my own now, and only taking a car when I need it. Enterprise CarShare has kept me covered over the last few weeks, so I can still get out to the suburbs, make hefty grocery trips and IKEA runs!

As I remember, Philly is definitely a city that has good public transit. When I lived in the suburbs, we always took the train in. I live in L.A. now and you can’t live without a car. I miss those days without one. Sounds like a really practical app. Since I work from home now, I could consider using something like that if my husband and I had to go down to one car.

I had no idea that this was a thing! So cool. I definitely need a car where I live but I’d love to use something like this if I didn’t.

Wow, I haven’t been without a car EVER but it doesn’t sound as impossible as I once thought. That’s so cool that ridesharing with rental companies has become a new thing. love it!

  8. My best friend works for Enterprise Rideshare, and as we live in the Bay Area it is such a convenient, time-saving, money-saving option for those who commute. I have never heard of Carshare, but it sounds genius. Living in a city where parking is a nightmare it seems like such a no-brainer to have a service like Carshare. Enterprise seriously has great options! I’m glad you were not severely injured in your crash, and I like how this positive came out of a negative situation. Also, that blush shirt looks so beautiful on you! Great post all around!

    XOXO,
    Bri
