Shop the Dermalogica Products Post:
Let’s chat skincare, shall we?
One brand that I’ve loved using for years is Dermalogica. I started out by using their spot treatment, and one time in Ulta, I had a Dermalogica rep recommend that I try their Cleansing Body Wash for my chest and back acne — and the rest was history. I was hooked.
The kind folks over at Dermalogica invited me to try out their Fit Skin Fridays program over the summer. A disclaimer, I was gifted this consultation service and set of products, but I had no obligation to post about it. The program worked incredibly well for me, so I figured I’d detail my results in a blog post!
For Fit Skin Fridays, I had a 30-minute consultation with a Dermalogica products skin expert. I explained to her my skin concerns: for me, I have t-zone/combination skin, and I deal with occasional breakouts in those areas. I wanted a skincare regimen that minimized my pores and reduced shine for my t-zone area.
I’m not going to lie: I’ve used a lot of skincare products in the past. My morning routine consisted of using seven different products: a precleanse, a cleanser, microfoliant, toner, serum, eye cream, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen. Did I need to use that many products on my face each morning? Absolutely not.
My Custom Skincare Routine with Dermalogica Products:
Morning
Special Cleansing Gel – the size of a pea with lots of water
Antioxidant Hydramist – mist all over to firm and hydrate
Oil Free Matte SPF 30 – your SPF, moisturizer, and mattifier all in one
Stress Positive Eye Lift – as needed to hydrate, depuff and firm
Multivitamin Power Firm – for the eyes
Evening
Precleanse – use with dry hands on dry skin to remove makeup
Special Cleansing Gel
Daily Microfoliant – exfoliation step, to brighten, keep pores clear, remove dead skin build up
Bio Lumin C Serum – a full dropper all over the face, neck, and chest. Will firm, brighten and resurface the skin
Active Moist – your lightweight PM moisturizer
Multivitamin Power Firm
1-3 times per week
Charcoal Rescue Masque – Replace the exfoliation step with the mask step 1-3 times per week. Charcoal Rescue Masque will detox pores.
My Results
After two weeks, my skin felt as smooth as a baby’s bottom. I love how my skin expert condensed my skincare routine and significantly improved it! My breakouts were at an all-time low, except for the very stubborn hormonal chin acne that I get (I’ve been told that only medication can clear that up!)
Something notable? I used to use a lot of “Night Creams” from brands, thinking I needed to lay on the thick moisturizers at night. I have normal/oily combination skin, and this just doesn’t work for me. I love that my skin expert suggested I use a lightweight moisturizer at night: it still packed a punch, but didn’t leave a greasy residue like some of the other night creams I’ve used!
This skincare routine worked great for me in the summer — I might need to swap out for a heavier duty moisturizer in the winter, but other than that I’m incredibly pleased with my results.
The Three Must-Have Items from This Regimen
All of these products were pretty incredible. However, if I had to narrow it down? First, I’d opt for the Charcoal Rescue Masque. I loved how fast (and effective) this mask was. I only needed to leave it on for 3-5 minutes, and it did a fabulous job at tightening up my pores. It feels weird the first time you put it on, but trust me: it’s worth it.
Second: I loved the Precleanse, and if you wear makeup a ton, I’d definitely snag this product. I like using both my makeup wipes and the Precleanse as a one-two punch to really get rid of all the makeup I have on before cleansing!
Lastly, I used the Daily Microfoliant before my skin consultation, and it’s been one of my favorite Dermalogica products for a hot minute. I don’t travel without this product (friends: it comes in a super affordable travel size too, FYI!) It does an outstanding job at clearing my pores on a daily basis, and that’s one part of my skin routine that I’ll never skip.
