Thank you to Walmart+ for sponsoring today’s post! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Can you believe that today is the first day of fall? 2022 is flying by! If you got a chance to read my book, you know that decorating for fall is one of my favorite activities to partake in during the season. However, before I add a bunch of new, seasonal decor pieces to my space, I like to declutter and deep clean to transition for some peace of mind.
Spring cleaning might be popular, but I’m a fan of decluttering anytime during the year. Plus, if you get organized now, you’ll be all set up until the holidays. Here are a few tips and tricks to declutter and deep clean your home to prep for the new season!
Decluttering and Organizing for Fall With Walmart+

Ok, ok — I know we’re jumping ahead here a bit, but once your space is finally decluttered, it’s pretty wild to see the random spots in your home that need a little TLC. I don’t know about you, but looking underneath my couch and seeing the dust pile-ups is pretty jarring!
It’s essential to do a deep clean of your space after you’ve decluttered, and you can save a ton of time and money by buying Walmart Brands via Walmart+. The pricing of these in-house brands is competitive, yet they get the job done. I was surprised to see a variety of keto, vegan, and organic products available for such a low price.
You can also save time with Walmart+ with their Online pickup and delivery options. You can get same-day delivery to your home or coordinate an online pickup if you have time to drive to the store. I’ve saved hours with my Walmart+ membership over the years!

The One-Year Rule
Alright — let’s get into decluttering. I have a one-year rule: if I haven’t used it in a year, it’s time to give it a new home. This applies to clothes, decor, furniture, kitchen appliances, things I’ve been gifted…you name it. Admittedly, because I’m an influencer, I have a lot of products coming into my home. The only way to keep this space organized is not to get too attached to certain pieces and part with anything that I’m either not using or doesn’t bring me joy.
If something doesn’t meet my “one-year” rule and I love it and can’t seem to part with it, I challenge myself to use it within the next month. If I don’t use it within that month, I know it’s time to go.
I’ve also made some exceptions for pieces that hold sentimental value; otherwise, it’s good to purge and purge often.
A Little Decluttering Each Day Makes a Difference
I find big cleaning days to be overwhelming, to be honest. I don’t know where to start. And I find myself pacing back and forth between rooms and not being super productive.
Instead of big organization days, I like to take on a small area in my home once a week. I often tear up my closet for shoots. So I make it a point to organize small sections each week and put things back in their proper spot. If I’m organizing and realize I’m ready to let go of something, I’ll place it in my giveaway bin. Once my giveaway bin is full, I know it’s time to either give it to my audience if it’s in good condition, make some listings on clothing reseller sites, or make a trip to a donation center.
Make a Plan to Donate
As I mentioned before, once my giveaway bin is full, I make a plan to get it out of my home. My nearest donation center of choice is only a 10-minute drive away, so it’s pretty easy for me to load up my car and get those items out of my house. It’s an easy task to add to your days when you’re out and about running errands! Depending on my travel schedule, I’ll make it a point to go to the donation center at least once a month.
