Palmer's Cocoa Butter Product Review

Guys, I have to admit: I have a love-hate relationship with winter.

I love the excuse to have Netflix and wine nights, watching snow fall outside of my window, and sipping on hot cocoa. Or, I could just say that I enjoy being indoors in the winter. However, being outside in the frigid cold, trying to drive in sleet and snow with D.C. drivers, and the million layers of clothing you need? Nope, not a fan.

My absolute least favorite part of winter is the dry skin, but luckily over the years, I’ve found ways to combat this. Here are my tips and tricks on how to combat dry skin this winter!

Try to Take Less Showers

Guys: hear me out. I’m not saying to skip too many showers on a regular basis, but if you can avoid that second shower of the day, your skin with thank you! Also, make sure that you’re using a shower gel that’s hydrating, and skip the ivory soap bar all together.  I use Dermalogica’s shower gel and it’s honestly one of my favorite products to use year-round!

Use a Makeup Primer

I actually use two different makeup primers that are both made by Make Up For Ever: I use their mattifying primer in the warmer months since my t-zone can get super oily, and I use the hydrating primer in the winter months. I know so many of us skip this simple makeup step but trust me — it will seriously help you out throughout the day!

Invest in a Facial

Whenever my zits start getting smaller and healing, the blemish tends to get super dry and flaky during the colder months! I try to eliminate as much acne as possible by getting a facial in the winter months to clear out my clogged pores. It’s a great investment you should definitely take advantage of if you’re able to!

Use Cocoa Butter Instead of Lotion

Most lotions that I’ve tried really don’t have the hydration that I need in the winter. I’ll apply it in the morning, and notice my skin is dry only a few hours later. No bueno! I’ve found that cocoa butter is far, far more effective than your typical lotion, and one line of products I love using on the regular is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter. I use three of their products: the Daily Skin Therapy Lotion, Daily Skin Therapy Concentrated Cream and Formula Swivel Stick.

I love to keep the Concentrated Cream next to me at my desk for my hands, since you are frequently washing them throughout the day and that’s the first part of your to get super dry skin. I also love the Formula Swivel Stick because it works great on either your lips or body. It’s great for traveling as well since it’s super easy to throw in your bag!

My absolute favorite thing about Palmer’s? The cost! It’s super affordable, and you can find it at your local drug store, Target or Kmart. You don’t need to spend a million bucks to get hydrated skin!

What are your winter beauty tips and tricks?

Thank you to Palmer’s and Her Campus Media for partnering with me on today’s post! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Yesss! I totally agree with the lotions. They work for maybe 2 hours MAX and then my skin is dry again. I loooove body butters but I haven’t tried cocoa butter before. I gotta give it a shot.

I love cocoa butter! I used it during my pregnancy everyday and I didn’t have a single stretch mark. I also suffer through dry skin every winter. It’s no fun but I’ve found if I used a sugar scrub a few times a week it helps. Also I layer on baby oil as soon as I get out of the shower before I dry off. It helps hold in the moisture. Sometimes that’s enough but if I’m really dry I add some lotion. I’ll have to try some cocoa butter again, it’s been a while.

Cocoa butter is *classic*. It’s definitely so much more moisturizing than many lotions! Also, facials…I’m recently obsessed. If only my bank account could get on board with that obsession…ha!
