If you follow along on social media, you know that I attended the pre-inaugural sailing of the brand new Celebrity Edge last week, and you guys: it did not disappoint!
To be candid, I never really considered myself to be a cruise person: that is until I boarded the Celerity Edge. From the sleek design to the food offerings and the advanced technology, I loved every single thing about this cruise. Here’s my honest review of the experience, and why I think that the brand new Celebrity Edge should be on your radar.
The Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship: an Exclusive Review
Celebrity Edge — The Rooms
I didn’t spend much time in my room, but when I did, it was incredible.
We stayed in their brand new, innovative Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, which is the first of its kind in the cruising industry. With this revolutionary design, the Celebrity Cruises team took the standard veranda stateroom and “blurred” the boundaries between inside and outside, making the entire living space a veranda: meaning guests can walk right out to the water’s edge. It was an absolute treat to wake up each morning, head out to the veranda and have an endless view of the ocean!
Not only was I impressed by the design of the Celebrity Edge room, but I was also blown away by the technology. The in-room automation allows guests to control pretty much everything in the room, from the lighting to the shades to the temperature, with a single touchscreen in the room (and also the Celebrity Cruises mobile app!) I knew I wanted to be awake for the sunrise, so we programmed the lights to gently wake us up each morning, and our lights gradually got brighter and brighter when it came time to wake up. How cool is that?
Lastly, I was surprised at how much space we had — the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda is 23% larger than the veranda staterooms on the Celebrity Solstice, and we adored the spacious king-sized bed (seriously, it was one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a while!)
Celebrity Edge — Dining
If you’re a foodie, this ship is for you: the Celebrity Edge has 29 different food and beverage experiences on board that are crafted by a Michelin-starred chef. Cruise ship cuisine has had a reputation of being mediocre in the past, but I was very impressed with Celebrity Edge’s top-notch food offerings.
There are 4 main dining rooms, 7 specialty restaurants and 4 complimentary dining experiences on board (including a buffet, grill and juice bar). For the specialty restaurants, I’d highly recommend snagging a reservation at Le Grand Bistro for the Chef’s Table. It’s a one of a kind dining experience where you can enjoy a 3D animation right on your plate — and a delicious meal. The concept? A little chef is creating your dishes right in front of you. Other spots I loved included Blu (the cocktail list was impressive) and the Spa Cafe and Juice Bar (lots of quick and healthy options). As a seafood lover, I want to try Raw on 5 during my next visit!
My absolute favorite feature on the Celebrity Edge? They’ve partnered up with Open Water, which offers sustainable packaging for a plastic-free ocean. Pretty cool, huh?
Celebrity Edge — Bars & Nightlife
There are seven bars on board open to the public, and two spaces dedicated especially for the Suite Class guests. Once you enter the Grand Plaza, you won’t be able to miss the grand Martini Bar. Sadly, service here was incredibly slow when we visited and we weren’t able to experience it for ourselves (we waited for over 20 minutes and did not receive assistance, but watched as the tables around us were waited on), however, we were on pre-inaugural sailing and the bar might not have been fully up and running just yet.
Aside from that minor hiccup, I really enjoyed all of the bar experiences on the Celebrity Edge: from the laid-back Sunset Bar (which offers up some of the most incredible views), to The Club, which was a lively spot perfect for the traveler who wants to stay up until the wee hours of the morning, they’re something for everyone aboard the Celebrity Edge.
The Celebrity Edge also offers a variety of live shows and entertainment at night. We peeked in and caught a little bit of a show at The Theater, and we loved our experience at Eden — there were so many talented performers all around the venue each night, and they served incredible cocktails.
Celebrity Edge — Amenities
First things first: let’s chat about the pool on the Celebrity Edge ship. While I loved how lively the main pool deck was, I also really enjoyed the (adults only!) Solarium — it was incredibly peaceful, and I really enjoyed relaxing here in between immersions.
I was able to tour the spa, and while I didn’t have enough time to try out a service on my own, I was really impressed with their offerings. From the state of the art fitness center to the nature-inspired spa treatments available, you could really spend an entire day pampering yourself — and I definitely plan on doing so on my next trip!
Lastly, let’s talk about the most unusual experience on the Celebrity Edge cruise ship: the Magic Carpet. It’s a 90-ton passenger platform that hangs over the side of the boat, and it moves up and down Celebrity Edge all day long while serving different functions on each deck. When it’s on Deck 2, it serves as a tender platform where you can catch a boat to shore. When it’s on Deck 14, it serves as a bar and offers some of the most spectacular views. The possibilities are endless with the Magic Carpet, so I’d keep an eye out for it all day long and make sure to stop by several times while on the trip.
Celebrity Edge — Final Thoughts
The Celebrity Edge cruise ship blew me away! ..and it surpassed all expectations. While there is a Camp at Sea for children on board, I would say this experience is more geared towards adults — and as a 20-something without children, I loved every minute of it. I think this would be a perfect trip for a couple, folks on a honeymoon, or the perfect girl’s getaway experience, however, I did come across a few multi-generational families on board.
Another fantastic thing about the Celebrity Edge ship? They made it pretty easy to keep up with a healthy lifestyle. Their gym offers fitness classes several times a day and has an extensive amount of equipment. There was a track on the top deck of the ship where walkers and joggers could stay active while soaking up incredible views. And lastly, there were several healthy food options on board (I loved the Juice Bar, in particular!)
Finally, the design and technology on the Celebrity Edge ship made the experience one of a kind. It almost felt like I was living in the year 2050 at times with how advanced this ship was: from the Magic Carpet to the in-room controls, to the sleek design, it indeed was a modern, yet luxurious experience all-around.
