Can I be real with all of you? I’ve been feeling deflated this last week. Being a full-time blogger can seem glamorous, however, in reality, it’s a roller coaster. It’s my job to make things look picture perfect at all times, even when my life is a hot mess.

Some weeks I’m on fire. I’ll nail collabs with my dream brands, get to go on a great press trip, or I’ll mix and mingle with the movers and shakers of my community. Other times, I’ll get rejected from collabs, be in-between checks and eating ramen, and struggle to get out of bed. Ah. It’s wild, you guys.

Here’s what I like to do whenever I have those weeks that are extra crappy.

What to Do When You’re Feeling Deflated:

Get Off Social Media

Social media is an integral part of my job. However, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s exhausting. And I’ll also admit that I find myself aimlessly scrolling on Instagram and comparing myself to others when I’m in a bad funk. I’ll wonder, why didn’t I get selected for this campaign, or why can’t I afford this luxury trip right now that XYZ influencer is taking?

Nope. Shut it down, friends. Instagram is a huge source of FOMO and the last thing you need when you’re feeling down. I’ll still post something daily since it is my job, but I’ll limit my time to 30 minutes/day when I’m in a bad funk. I might get behind on replying to comments and DMs in this period, but I can always catch up at a later date.

Do Something Active

I like to do at least one active thing a day when I’m feeling deflated. Whether it’s just taking a 15-minute walk around my neighborhood, going on a short hike or taking a spin class, I’ll put my phone away and focus on myself physically. If I can’t leave my apartment for some reason, I’ll turn on Blogilates on YouTube and just do a quick workout at home!

As Elle Woods would say: exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy. I always feel more refreshed and recharged after a short burst of physical activity, and it’s likely just what the doctor ordered whenever you’re feeling deflated!

Stay Super Organized

Since I’m self-employed, I tend to work all day/night. However, when I’m in a bad mood, I feel a lot less motivated, and while I might stare at my computer for a few hours, I’m not necessarily the most productive.

When I’m feeling in a funk, I’ll plan out a to-do list for myself, minimize distractions, and try to use my time efficiently so that I can end my workday as early as possible and veg out. I know it’s hard to even get out of bed when you’re in a bad mood but focus on the critical tasks that have to get done, knock it out of the park, and enjoy your free time once you’ve wrapped up your projects.

Take a Breather

Even though I’m super Type A, I’ve learned to take a step back when things are really bad. When I need to take a breather, I’ll put my phone/internet/social media away, and use the time to catch up on some of my favorite books, binge-watch a Netflix special, or go out and spend time with loved ones. Going offline when you need it is okay and good for the soul!
