Tops and Leggings: ℅ Beach House Sport

Guys, I promise you this post isn’t headed where you think it’s headed.

I’m going to be real with you: I don’t take very good care of myself. I opt for wine over water. I stay up late and rarely get even 6 hours of sleep. I eat pizza like it’s my day job. Seriously, I’m kind of the worst.

I’m pretty young and my body can somewhat handle this, however, I made a major boo-boo almost 2 years ago. I banged my funny bone really hard and ended up in a sling for a few weeks. My doctor told me I needed physical therapy 3 times a week. I didn’t want to pay for physical therapy, nor did I want to make time for it, so I decided to not go. What’s the worst that could happen, 23-year-old Alicia thought.

My carpal and cubital tunnel got extremely bad in the following year. I tried to work out but could never do a push up or lift any weights with the “bad arm”. My arm kept going numb and started to keep me up at night. It got to the point where I needed surgery (you know, that one I just got a few weeks ago and won’t shut up about). Yeah, I messed up big time.

I took these photos a few days before surgery and have them with me at all times as motivation to get my arm back to normal. It’s going to take a few months to regain strength and range of motion back. However, I’m hoping that by the March/April timeframe, I’ll be able to get myself in a gym yet again and able to do planks, pushups, and lift small weights. I haven’t been able to do any upper body exercises with my arm since February of 2014, and it makes me pretty upset especially because I was in a pre-professional ballet program back in high school and used to be in incredible shape. I just want to be a normal, healthy 20-something. Trust me, I will be making time for physical therapy this time around. I’m on a mission!

Anyway, now that I poured my little heart out, I do have a little gift for those of you who are able to work out and are looking for a fun new studio to try! I’ve teamed up with CorePower Yoga to give away a free month of unlimited classes at any one of their D.C. area studios! They have locations in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Glover Park, Arlington (Courthouse and Pentagon City), Falls Church, Merrifield and Chevy Chase, so really: you have no excuse. Get your butt into shape!
