I know I should be thinking about fall right about now, but now that I live in Southern California, I’m in an endless summer state of mind. Especially with all the amazing colorful dresses I’ve been seeing recently!

September and October are pretty warm months here in Los Angeles, so I’m letting my colorful sundresses and sandals stay out a little longer this year (don’t worry — I’m headed back East this fall too and will enjoy my boots and sweaters then!) Lately, I’ve been having a blast exploring several different California wine regions. And I’m not talking about Napa either — luckily, there are several wine regions within a two-hour drive of LA to explore. Santa Barbara, Ojai, Temecula, and Paso Robles are some of my favorite AVAs to visit for a quick wine getaway!

If you’re looking to visit a California winery soon, here are five colorful dresses to wear (and tips on what to wear to a winery!)

While the weather does vary between AVAs, you can plan on warm, sunny weather for most of the year. However, definitely check the weather in advance — depending on what elevation you’re at, it can feel super hot or a bit chilly!

I always recommend packing an extra layer, just in case. It can get super hot in the daytime, but since California has a dry climate, it cools off pretty fast at night.

My go-to is a midi or a maxi dress for a winery. You never know if you’ll end up sitting on a winery lawn or will have a picnic-style wine tasting experience, and I love that midi and maxi dresses allow me to get up and sit down with ease. Plus, they’re more eye-catching, in my opinion. However, if it’s super, super hot out, I’ll opt for something shorter (especially in Temecula and Paso Robles!)
